Montic
Monkeys defend spacetime from time-eating termites.
Enemy AI & pathfinding, turret systems, level & tutorial design

Montic is a turn-based defense game made in 96 hours for the GMTK Game Jam 2026, on the theme “COUNT DOWN”. A troop of monkey turrets must protect spacetime from an invasion of time-eating termites.
Plan each defense before the termites consume the timeline.
Time is currency
The countdown is more than a timer: it is the resource used to act. Placing a monkey or upgrading a defense spends turns, and every turn spent advances the enemy simulation. Termites move first, then the monkeys fire, so each purchase has an immediate strategic cost.
Every turret costs game turns, turning preparation into part of the battle.
Enemy types follow different movement patterns, while hovering over one reveals its predicted route. The result sits between a tower defense and a compact turn-based puzzle: success comes from anticipating the board rather than reacting in real time.
Different monkeys, enemy patterns and paths combine in the later levels.
My role
I programmed the turret systems, enemy AI and pathfinding, enemy route previews and combat interactions. I also worked on balancing, authored levels, the tutorial flow, menus and touch controls, while contributing to the game design throughout the jam.
A successful formation stops the termites before the countdown expires.
Jam results
Montic received 60 jam ratings and placed #39 in Audio, #77 in Enjoyment, #154 in Artwork and #190 in Creativity among more than 10,000 entries.
